Friday, February 12, 2010 - At 0540 Companies 13 first due, Co.8 (Moneta) second due, and Co. 1 (Bedford) as RIT were dispatched to 3269 Thomasson Mill Road for a chimney fire. While units were en route, A BCSO deputy arrived and reported heavy smoke conditions. W-83 and W-13 arrived to find moderated smoke showing from the Alpha and Bravo sides of the residence. W-13 passed command and both units went to work as Division 1. E-13 arrived shortly after and Chief 13 (Neel) established the command. Division 1 located fire in the walls behind the fireplace. Division 1 officer (AC Dooley) had Rescue 1's crew ladder the roof and check the flu. Division 1's crew removed the brick and wall behind the fireplace to find active fire which was extinguished and overhauled. The fire was held to the area of origin in the wall behind the fireplace. Units operated on scene for approx. 1.5 hours.
