Welcome to SC13FD.COM

The Stewartsville-Chamblissburg Fire Department is located in the Southwestern portion of Bedford County. Founded in 1959 and to date we are still 100% volunteer. With a roster of 30 firemen the department covers an area of 150 square miles with an average of 275 calls per year. We operate 7 pieces of apparatus that can handle most any job. Wagon 13 also responds as the Rapid Intervention Team for the Southside of the county. Our goal is to provide the community with the very BEST fire protection possible.

MOBILE HOME FIRE IN 2ND DUE

Shortly after midnight Co.8 (Moneta) First due and Co.13 (2nd due / RIT) were dispatched to Diamond Hill Road for a reported structure fire. FC-8 (Calhoun) arrived and reported that a single wide mobile home was fully involved. W-8 arrived behind  FC-8 and started a defensive attack. Per command Engine 13 was to assist with fire attack and Rescue 13 was to start pulling tin. E-13 and R-13 operated on scene for a about an hour and a half. Units operating W-8, W-82, T-8, E-13, R-13 and T-10   


 
 
SECOND FIRE FOR THE DAY

At 22:57 hours Co.8 (Moneta-1st due), Co.13 (2nd due and RIT) were dispatched to 2729 Horseshoe Bend Rd for a house under construction on fire. W-13 (with 6) was the 2nd piece of apparatus to arrive to find the house fully engulfed in flames. W-13's officer requested Co.1 (Bedford) be added to the call to aid in the RIT assignment. W-13's crew stretched a 2.5'' line and made an aggressive exterior attack and knocked the bulk of the fire down so overhaul and further extinguishment could take place. Units from 13, 8,1 and 12 worked together to complete a lengthy overhaul. Units operated for about 3 hours.  

 
 
SECOND FIRE FOR THE DAY, SECOND DUE

At 13:16 hours Co.19 (Shady Grove-1st due), Co.13 (2nd due) and Co.1(Bedford-RIT) were dispatched for a reported house fire with a handicapped occupant still inside the structure. W-13 (with 6) was the first fire apparatus to arrive to find heavy fire in the A/B corner of the mobile home. Upon the Wagons arrival the occupant was out of the structure. W-13's crew stretched a 1 & 3/4" line into the structure and extinguished the fire. L-1 arrived and assisted Co.13 with fire ground operations. Units cleared around 16:21 hours. Units operating: W-13, R-13, E-13, T-13, L-1, E-9, 14-9 and 14-13. Due to no response from 1st due (Co.19), 3rd due Co.9 (Montvale) was dispatched to assist. 


 
 
FIRST DUE GARAGE FIRE

At 04:55 hours Co.13, Co.19 (Shady Grove) 2nd due and Co.1 (Bedford) RIT were dispatched to 1716 Mountain Valley Rd for a reported garage fire. W-13 (with 6) was first to arrive to find a two story two car garage with fire showing from the left garage door. W-13's crew made entry into the garage through the left door where they encountered heavy fire and smoke, W-13's crew made an aggressive attack on the fire and knock the fire down. R-13 and E-13 arrived and per command went to work checking for extension on the second story. R-1 arrived and went to work aiding the interior crew. Units on scene overhauled the structure before clearing at 08:18 hours. Co.12 (Hardy) was dispatched due to no response from second due, Co.19. Units operating on scene: W-13, R-13, E-13, T-13, R-1, E-12, T-12, Medic 8 and Medic 2 from Vinton.

 
 
Rescue 13 goes into service

Finally after a long anticipated wait Rescue 13 was marked into service shortly after 18:00 hours on Friday July 25th. Rescue 13 will run all RIT calls for Co.13 and any special calls that we are dispatched to. R-13 has a large assortment of rescue tools and equipment to handle most any job. Wagon 13 had a lot of equipment removed from it and will operate strictly as an engine company now since the rescue is in service. Co.13 would like to thank the truck committee, guys who mounted the equipment and M&W for their hard work and effort on this truck, also a special thanks goes out to Chris "Ethan" Scott for his hard work and dedication on this truck, JOB WELL DONE GUYS! This truck will serve the community and this fire company very well.

 
   
   
 
MVC GOODVIEW ROAD

At 0230 hours Co.13 and Sq.13 received a call for a vehicle accident with injury. Wagon 13 (with 6) was first to arrive to find one vehicle into a tree. DC-13 (A. Dooley) established the command. W-13's crew stabilized the vehicle and controlled traffic. The driver was out of the vehicle upon the wagons arrival, Co.13 members assisted in packaging the one patient as well. W-13 operated on scene for about on hour before returning to service.


 
   
   
 
FATAL MVC W/ FIRE

At 12:50 hours Co 13, Sq 4 and Medic 14-13 were dispatched for a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment and fire. While responding, Bedford Communications advised W-13 that they were getting reports that the subject was not breathing and other reports that the passenger compartment was on fire. W-13 requested next due, which was Co. 8, assigning W-82 and Brush 8 to the call. W-13 arrived to find one pick up truck head on into a tree fully involved with fire and a utility trailer partially involved. W-13 went into attack mode and Command (Glidden) assigned Brush 8 to attack the engine compartment and W-13 the passenger compartment and trailer. After the fire was knocked down it was confirmed that there was one occupant still in the vehicle, DOA. After full extinguishment of the fire and the Medical Examiner finished the investigation, a wrecker removed the vehicle from over the embankment and onto the road where W-13 used the TNT tools to extricate the body. Command began releasing companies and after the vehicle was removed from the scene all units cleared. Units operating where: W-13, T-13, MP-13, C-13, B-8, W-82, Medic 14-13, and EMS 8-1.

 
   
   
 
HOUSE FIRE ON BOLD BRANCH RD

At 19:13 hours Co.8 (Moneta) 1st due, Co.7 (Huddleston) second due and Co.13 (RIT) were dispatched to 2613 Bold Branch Road for a reported house fire. Co.8 units arrived and reported this to be a working fully involved fire, Co.8 units began a defensive attack. Wagon 13 (with 6 RIT) arrived and per command was given the assignment of pulling tin off the structure. Co.13 units pulled tin for about 45 minutes before being released by command.

 
 
SMALL PIN JOB

At 18:28 hours Co.13, Sq 13 and Sq 4 were dispatched to Stewartsville Road for a reported vehicle accident with several injuries and possible entrapment. Wagon 13, Brush 13 arrived to find one vehicle overturned and on its top with two subjects out of the vehicle and one still inside unconscious. AFC 13 established command and Co.13 units went to work cutting the occupant out of the vehicle. Due to the mechanism of injuries command advised that the patient be transported by medivac. DFC 13 was given the assignment of landing Lifeguard 10. Once the extrication was complete a ground medic unit transported the patient to the landing zone to the awaiting helicopter. Once LG-10 was clear units remained on scene until the wrecker removed the vehicle. All Co.13 units cleared at 20:38 hours.

 
   
   
 
RESCUE 13 UPDATE

Company 13 and M&W fire apparatus sent R-13 to the 2008 Pennsylvania Fire Expo this past weekend to be showed. Several fire companies looking to purchase a rescue came to the show to see the new rescue up close and personal. Co.13 should take delivery of the new truck around the first of June and we are hoping to place the truck into service around the first of July. Rescue 13 will handle all the RIT / specialty assignments that Wagon 13 was running, Wagon 13 will go back to being a primary engine for us.

 
   
   
 
WORKING FIRE ON LYNNVILLE FORD ROAD

At 0400 hours Co.13 (First due), Co.8 (Moneta) 2nd due and Co.1 (Bedford) RIT were dispatched to Lynnville Ford road for a report of smoke in a residence with smoke detectors activated. Wagon 13 (with 6) was first to arrive to find smoke showing from the A and B sides of the structure. W-13's officer passed the command and marked this a working fire. W-13's crew quickly stretched 2 1¾ lines into the structure and found the fire in the hall way and in 2 other rooms, while one crew extinguished the fire the other crew performed a search of the upper level. Once the fire was knocked down members from Co.13, 1, 12 and 8 overhauled the 2 rooms. Units operated on scene for about 2 hours. Units operating W-13, E-13, P-13, L-1, R-12.

 
   
   
 
GARAGE FIRE ON HOLIDAY CIRCLE

At 18:29 hours Co.13 (first due), Co.19 (Shady Grove) 2nd due and Co.1 (Bedford) RIT were dispatched to 1219 Holiday Circle for a reported garage fire. Wagon 13 (with 3) was first to arrive to find heavy smoke and fire showing from a metal constructed garage and a double wide mobile home nearby with the fire impinging on it as well, also there were several large piles of brush on fire near the garage. W-13's officer (DFC Dooley) passed command and the wagon crew went into attack mode. W-13's crew cooled the nearby exposure and then linked up with the crew from Engine 13 to make entry into the garage to extinguish the garage. R-1 arrived and assisted Co.13 with overhaul of the garage and the outside area that was on fire. E-12 established RIT and crews from Co.13, Co.12 and Co.19 worked on containing / extinguishing the brush fires until the DOF dozer arrived and cut in a safety line around the piles of brush. R-13 CHASSIS ARRIVES AT LOCAL TRUCK BUILDER

Rescue 13's HME chassis arrived at M&W Fire apparatus Tuesday. The body has started being made and the truck will soon be coming together. We will try to keep the site updated as the truck progresses on. The delivery date is scheduled to be around May 19th.

 
   
   
 
W-13 SECOND DUE TO CO.8

Around the 14:00 hours Co.8 (Moneta) 1st due, Co.13 (second due and RIT) were dispatched to Flint hill road for a reported brush fire that had spread to a structure. W-82 and FC-8(Calhoun) arrived to find active fire showing from the "D" side of the structure,W-82 went to work extinguishing the fire. W-13 officer (A.Dooley) advised dispatch to add L-1(Bedford) to the run to cover RIT due to being short staffed. W-13(with 4) arrived and per command was given the assignment of pulling the exterior siding. Co.8 and 13 worked together to pull the involved siding and check for any extension. Command returned L-1 due to RIT was not needed. Units worked on scene for about an hour. Units operating on scene: C-8, W-82, W-13 and T-8.

 
   
   
 
FLU FIRE IN HARDY

Around 2315 hours Co.12 (Hardy) 1st due, Co.13 (Second due) and Co.1 (Bedford) RIT were dispatched for a Flu fire. FC-12 and E-12 arrived and went to work on the interior of the structure. W-13 (with 6) arrived behind E-12 and per command was given the assignment of going to the roof. W-13's crew went to work throwing ladders, setting up lights and laddering the roof. Co.13 units worked the roof while Co.12 units worked the lower level and the ground level operations. Units on scene removed the fire from the flu and ran the ball & chain down the chimney to clear the debris. Units worked on scene for about and hour. Units operating on scene: E-12, W-13, T-12, T-13 and R-12. Command returned L-1 to quarters due to the ladder was not needed.
